What is the Walk to Emmaus?

The Walk to Emmaus is a combined effort of laity and clergy in an Upper Room program designed to inspire and challenge local church members to strengthen and renew their faith and equip them for Christian action in their homes, churches, places of employment, and community. The weekend begins on Thursday evening at 7 pm and ends Sunday evening at 7 pm. You will live and study together with other "pilgrims on the road to Emmaus." You will sing and play, worship and pray together. You will have the opportunity to participate in the daily celebration of Holy Communion, to understand more fully the presence of Christ, and to experience God's grace personally through the acts of a living, loving, and caring support community. One of the primary strengths of Emmaus is the follow-up. Although the Emmaus weekend lasts only three days, you will be given opportunities to build on it for the rest of your life. You will be encouraged to expand your own spiritual life through study and to become more active Disciples of Christ through your church. Your discipleship can be nurtured by Emmaus through small "reunion groups", monthly gatherings of the Emmaus Community, and opportunities to support future Walks. Your involvement in any activities after your Emmaus weekend is voluntary, but we pray you will choose these activities to help foster your Christian growth.

The deadline for submitting an application for a Walk to Emmaus is the Thursday PRIOR to the date of the Walk.
